Royal Yacht Club of Victoria is the perfect for families and children in particular to learn to sail. The club has embraced Tackers, a program aimed at giving every junior Australian the opportunity to go sailing in a professional, safe and fun environment.
Tackers is an entry-level sailing program for primary school aged children. Designed around kids, for kids, the Tackers program seeks to provide a vibrant new approach to sail training that recognises that the learning styles of children differs from those of adults.
The program is based around some core values that inform everything that is delivered and communicated about the program. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t need to have their own boat. All the equipment, including life jackets and boats is provided. They don’t even need to be a member of the club to participate, though of course we would be delighted if ultimately they decided to join up.
To enrol in a course you can fill out and submit an enrolment form to the RYCV office or click the links online to enrol over the internet.

|Tackers 1 (Fun & Confidence)||Tackers 1 is the first step, and will provide the student, after 20 hours group tuition, with a basic degree of comfort to sail a small boat in company with another, in light to medium wind conditions.
|Tackers 2 (Tricks & Techniques)||Tackers 2 moves on from Tackers 1 teaching the student better sailing, tricks, techniques and sailing safely by themselves.
|Tackers 3 (Go Fast)||Tackers 3 moves on from Tackers 2, teaching the student beginner racing skills in readiness for club and green fleet Opti racing.
Each level involves 20 hours tuition from qualified Australian Sailing (formerly Yachting Australia) Instructors and Assistant Instructors. There is a combination of on-the-water and off-the water games to ensure every participant enjoys their experience. A Tackers kit and a certificate will be awarded at the end of each level of the program.
